Carrying the Christ at Christmas

I remember the years that the words “Christ in us the hope of Glory” were all about the benefits of having raised my hand and accepted Christ as my Savior. It was all about me. What He had done for me and what He could continue to do for me. I lived out my life the way I wanted to and whenever I had a problem I reminded Him of His responsibility to take care of me. The journey has been long and arduous but I believe Truth has finally dawned in my heart.  Carrying the Christ is the daily Lifestyle and Way of the true followers and disciples of King Jesus.

Preparation for Carrying the Christ

It’s really interesting how we adjust and add to the account of His birth. First of all Mary was not necessarily the prettiest teenager or young mother in the congregation or the school. The scriptures clearly teach us that Jesus was no class A hunk so Mary must not have been some hottie. For all we know she was just a homely Jewish plus size teenager.

My point here is there is no external preparation to receive and carry the Christ. All the modern issues with external beauty and being skinny disappear. We are all equals when it comes to being chosen by the Lord.

Another 21st century giant falls when we find out Joseph and mary were both poor. Their financial condition was no impediment to being chosen to carry the Christ. They didn’t need to be “empowered”, wear designer clothes and sport their bling to be found by the Lord. Nothing temporal or outward made th special enough to be chosen by God to carry His Son.

Also, Mary was not “doing” anything spiritual when she is chosen. Oh how that irks our religious nature! Surely we would like to see her chosen as she reads her Advent calendar, on her knees saying her prayers at the local synagogue, or lighting a candle to Moses or David. Surely she was the Best Worship Leader at the Mega Church? You know, when she deserves it. Not to be. No Religious System Dance here. The scriptures say ALL our works are as filthy rags.

God chose Mary, a virgin not for any other reason but by the grace of God to carry the firstborn of a new creation. Joseph and Mary were both of a linage of royalty in a time where their last name couldn’t buy them a cup of coffee. So, then the Bible says the Holy Spirit came over her, because only God can produce God. The Holy Spirit here was showing us the Way for us to follow today. Without Him we are nothing! Oh, how I pray His people would come to a fulness of that Revelation!

Attributes of Carrying the Christ

How is it that The King of Kings, the Lord of Glory, the Creator of the Heavens and Earth is born in a little town inside a smelly parking garage for animals? Where is the palace? Where are the royal robes? Why not a VIP entrance and a green room for the upper crust of Religion to come and meet Him?

Only Human Religion can invent a separation between God and man. Such are the man-made distinctions of the masses and clergy or pastor and laity! based on this we understand today that an inaccessible Christian leader and an inaccessible Sunday Morning Church must not be carrying the Christ. Separation has never been the heart of God.

Even the prophets told us of the Father’s purpose for the Son’s coming.

Matt 1:22-23

22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” NKJV

God came near to His creation and He made Himself as accessible as He possibly could so that all would have equal opportunity to be blessed. Yes the day He was born I am sure there were some murderers in the crowd, maybe a couple of gay pastors, surely 2 or 3 topless dancers or prostitutes. You see, the Christ does not have the problems we have. He knew He came because we all had need of a Deliverer and His Father made sure that His creation didn’t rope His Son off from a needy world.

John 3:17
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. NKJV

The angels announced the Good News of Great Joy! If there is anything that is a natural attribute of a Christ Carrier is that smile and joy they bring to others when they are around. We can’t change a sour puss but the Christ we carry can. Our Joy should be infectious! We bring Hope where there is no hope and a reason to live where there is only despair. We are the New Jerusalem. We are the City Abraham was looking for. We are the family of the fatherless and the visible manifestation of a Loving God!  Wow, I am getting excited just telling you about it.

Am I describing a fairyland with no pain and suffering? No, most likely tomorrow morning when we get up we will probably have the same president, the same laws and the same injustices but I have Good News there is a King of a New Kingdom who has promised to never leave us or forsake us.

Christ Carriers are always packing and are fully loaded at all times. They are always ready to bring the Kingdom of God to earth as it is in Heaven.

The Benefits of Carrying the Christ

I love the fact the Lord Jesus Christ is a God of the Suddenlies. Just when you can’t go any farther, just when you are at the end of your rope, just when all hope is gone BOOM! He shows up. Have you ever thought about how the Father made provision for the Son years before His birth? He sent an entire caravan of Wise men full of gifts for His Son to the exact location of His birth without GPS. Listen, God knows where you are and what is going on in your life!

This was the same God who gave the Israelites all the gold of Egypt before they left on the Exodus. If you are a Christ carrier you carry within you the ability to walk in expectancy of an instant “God-change” to any situation and a belief that at any minute God move on someone’s behalf. Why, because they deserve it? No. but because of Who you carry inside of you.

Being a Christ Carrier is soooo much more than getting a ticket to Heaven someday. Eternal life starts here. New creation living is not for heaven, it’s for here. The only God that is alive knows your name and wants to have a daily relationship with you. You are not alone! He made you. He understands you. He knows everything about you and yet he still loves you. You cannot escape His love!

Check out the video and you will see that the last thing He does is invite you to come near. Whether you are a follower of Christ or you are running away in unbelief He comes to get closer to you. I can hear you now “I won’t be a hypocrite and just talk to Him at Christmas.” Listen He already knew that and still He invites you to draw near.

If you are carrying the Christ give yourself a quick check up and make sure that the Christ you are showing to others lines up with the Christ you carry inside.

Much Love and have a great celebration of the King who draws near!

p.s. My mom passed at 84 years old and she use to tell me that every morning when she opened her eyes on this earth and felt His embrace it was Christmas for her. May you too have such a privilege!
